beautifully produced illustrated hard-back book of paintings celebrating
the West Country by James Lynch, with poetry by David Caddy, James
Crowden and Mary Maher. The book contains 26 full colour illustrations
of Lynch's paintings, panoramic landscapes of Somerset, Wiltshire and
Dorset inspired by the painter's passion for paragliding and flying
alongside buzzards over old Wessex. As well as the expansive
weather-drenched landscapes there is also more down-to-earth intimate
rural subject matter : a milking parlour at dusk, a tractor ploughing a
dark field, an old green caravan and a lone cyclist in moonlight. Words from three celebrated West Country poets accompany the images, some written especially for particular paintings.
The landscapes are drenched in weather and the magical light James is well known for.
Places featured in the book include the Somerset Levels, Mere and Kingston Deverill in Wiltshire and Powerstock and Batcombe in Dorset.
